Yousef Shahin to Fund Films About Important WomenEgypt’s international film company powerhouse, Yousef Shahin, plans to produce a number of short narrative films exploring the lives of the most prominent women who have recently influenced the nation’s history.Ten million pounds have been allocated for the films, which will be screened in France and marketed internationally, the Qatar daily Al Rayah said. Three short narrative films have already been completed: the 45-minute “Rose al-Yousef,” directed by Mohammed al-Qalyoubi; as well as the 40-minute “Bahijah Hafez,” and the 50-minute “Badiah Masabni;” directed by Ahmed Maher. “The films explore the lives of the women’s movement pioneers in the Arab World and how they enriched Arab culture and art throughout their lives. The directors have sought the help of rare recordings of some of these stars, together with some artistic stars such as Najeeb Al Rihani, Badiah Masabni and others. All the films will be shot with a high standard befitting these famous women,” the newspaper added.
