Egyptian TV Censors Erase Memory of 1971 Cairo Students' Sit-inDirector Safwat Al Qushairi has objected to a decision by Egyptian TV censors to demanded the omission of two episodes from his new series, which in part depicts the students' sit-in at Cairo UNiversity in 1971Qushairi submitted a memo objecting to the scissoring of Rajol Tamouh (Ambitious Man), and demanded that the head of the Radio and TV Union form a committee of experts to see the series and judge it as a whole. “I didn't shoot the two episodes separately from the rest of the series, but I ascertained the need for avoiding sit-ins and stressed the fact that some students did not participate in the sit-in and violence. The series showed that the Cairo University students union was against the demonstrations. "I was also keen on presenting the scene of the late president Sadat's speech, in which he reiterated that the students were his sons,” Qushairi told the Egyptian magazine Akhbar Al Nujum. “The series addresses an important historical era during the period 1970-1978, and how this era created psychological, political and social reactions among the youth. This was depicted by the series' stars,” said Qushairi, adding that the omission of the two episodes would cause a major problem in the drama.
