Lebanese Film Depicts Palestinian Children ResistanceThe Lebanese director Eliane Raheb screened her documentary film al Bae’ed al Qareeb (So Near, Yet So far) at the 25 Gothenburg festival. She introduced her film to the Swedish audience saying, “you can say it is a film seeking to know the others and representing a new Lebanese vision which is aware of the Palestinian problem,” according to the daily al Hayat. The film is about a group of Palestinian children following the death of the Palestinian child Mohammed al Dorrah as a martyr. It aims at knowing this type of human beings and their suffering and the drives behind their bold resistance. Raheb made a tour in Egypt, Jordan and France. In south Lebanon Raheb meets a group of children fighting with the Israeli army close to their liberated borders over a cow and a number of sheep. The Israelis steal hundreds of their sheep but the response of the children comes quickly and spontaneously by stealing a cow from the other side and refusing to return it until all their sheep are recovered. Through this story which appears funny we get familiarized with the mentality of these simple and good farmers and their feelings. They are human beings who love their land and plants and defend them boldly in a manner that the Israeli enemy tanks and machine guns cannot stop. In this Lebanese part the director presents a real image of the south good and courageous people whom certain political powers try to keep in dark and present them in a deformed sectarian framework. These powers base their actions on calculations that are not related to the reality of these farmers and children who challenge the enemy in their defense of their rights and simple properties. Then the director takes the audience to Cairo where she hopes to meet the Egyptian child Ahmed Shaarawi who leaves his family house to erect a tent near the Palestinian borders to be close to the struggle arena in which his Palestinian counterparts are daily involved in bloody confrontations. Despite the efforts she makes along with her colleague she fails to meet this child for reasons related to the Egyptian special situation. While wandering in Paris Raheb gets acquainted with some Palestinian young men who fight daily with racial French people in defense for their identity and promoting their cause. Raheb then visits two Palestinian families in Jordan. The first family faces the problem of its daughter Nada who is a student in one of the Jordanian schools. Nada insists on inciting and work in collaboration with her colleagues to support the Palestinian issue and its stone-throwing children. The conflict between Nada and the school administration reaches a point where Nada’s father has to interfere. The father is a plastic artist who is frustrated from his past armed confrontation experience in Jordan and its failures in the seventies. In her dialogue with the family, the director manages to portray a new image that represent the image of the children spontaneous revolt and their motivated protest to bypass the parents political experience disappointment. This action by the children represents the rejection of the disability moment depicted by Dorrah’s killing and a rejection of the disability of his father who is deprived of his will -- Albawanba.com Marcel Khalife Demands Barak InvestigationMarcel Khalife has asked that Ehud Barak be held accountable for the ‘torture sessions’ he has conducted on the Palestinian people.Abdel Menem Madbouli Plays World's Most Miserly GroomEgyptian actor Abdel Menem Madbouli has begun shooting the new TV feature Sami Afendi A’ayez Yitgawwez (Sami Effendi Wants to Get Married), about a man who wants to get hitched, but cheaply.Nabila Ebeid Falls in Love with Oppressive ManThe renowned Egyptian actress Nabila Ebeid will begin next month shooting up her new film Hisan al Lail along with the movie star Ahmed Zaki.‘Al Assefah’ Burns American Flag and Competes at San Francisco FestivalThe Egyptian director Khaled Yousef and the actress Yusra left Cairo for San Francisco to attend the film “Al Assefah” (the Thunderstorm)‘Days of Love’ Between Nirmin Al Faqi and Khaled ZakiEgyptian artists Nermin Al Faqi and Khaled Zaki are gearing up to shoot the new TV series Ayyam Al Hobb (Love Days) scripted by Adel Murci and directed by Mustafa Al Shal. |
