Amira Al Aidi Stages Revolts against Bedouin TraditionsAfter playing unique roles last year in the two television series Souk Al Asr and Al Ferar Minal Hubb, the young Egyptian artist Amira Al Aidi has returned to star in the series Al Amira Wal Mamlouk, according to the London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.Costarring in the new series, which is directed by Mahmoud Bakri and scripted by Hussein Abu Shbeikeh, are Riyad Al Khouli, Mohammed Riyad and Shireen. Aidi plays a Bedouin girl and the daughter of a tribal leader living in the desert. Her father agrees on her marriage to one of the tribe’s warriors, who wants to wed her. The girl violates her tribe’s traditions by rejecting the suitor, and in doing so creates many problems. The series takes place in the era of the Ottoman and Mamluke regimes. Aidi played two different roles last year in Souq Al Asr and Alfarar Minal Hubb. Her first role was as the daughter of the dictatorial governor of Cairo, played by Mahmoud Yasin, who dominates her husband’s family, trying to destroy them one by one, including her husband, played by Said Abdel Ghani.
