Avalanche of Syrian Films Imminent

After a three-year dry spell, the Syrian Cinema General Corporation is churning out 10 long and short films, some nearly finished, others still in the preparatory stages.
The corporation’s general manager, Mohammed Al Ahmed, told the UAE daily Al Bayan that “after a halt that lasted for three years, during which no films were shot, four long narrative films will be wrapped up this year, in addition to another six short ones…for the first time in the history of the Syrian cinema industry.”
Director Abdel Latif Abdel Hamid a few days ago finished shooting Qmaran Wa Zaytouneh (Two Moons and an Olive), and he will soon wrap up the direction of his other film, Zahr Al Rumman (Pomegranate Flowers).
Meanwhile, director Osama Mohammed will begin shooting Sundooq Al Donia (Life Box) on August 1.
The fourth Syrian film is directed by Waha Al Raheb, who will begin shooting next November, marking the first female direction of a long narrative film produced by the corporation.
There are also plans for two short cartoon films by Muwaffaq Qat. This is in addition to a script by Bassam Hossni entitled Al Qinaa (The Mask), a short film entitled Digital, and a work by Dalaa Al Rahbi under the direction of Jamal Sleiman - bf8229.com
